Life Review Therapy

When asked to reimagine the future of healthcare, an industry which exists to prolong life, our research led us to a closer examination of our relationship with death, in order to impact quality of life.

Inspired by the Tibetan Book of the Dead, this project explores the concept of soul cleansing, a theme found in many cultures and religions through water-based rituals.

Society uplifts transient things such as youth, beauty, fame and wealth. The rich seek a cure for the inevitable - longevity - and the poor seek escape from reality. But beneath the surface is an angst and fear of death which stems from an unhealthy attachment to materiality.
Life Review Therapy
A transformative approach to holistic well-being inspired by the Tibetan book of the dead.
Life Review Therapy helps you find meaning, resolve issues and prepare both spiritually and emotionally for the inevitability of death. This therapy provides a profound opportunity for existential self-healing by enabling individuals to face challenging aspects of their life and mortality. Life review therapy offers a unique opportunity for those who have lost someone to see, speak to, and even touch them again. Through deep introspection, individuals can revisit pivotal moments, relive cherished memories and find peace with difficult ones.
Sensory deprivation offers a distinctive environment which is both psychologically and physiologically ideal for meditation, contemplation and preparation for death. It promotes deep relaxation and a feeling of detachment from the external world. External stimuli such as light, sound, and tactile sensation are minimized, enabling individuals to concentrate inwardly. The sensation of weightlessness created by floating in saltwater aids in physical relaxation, which can help reduce cortisol levels, thereby facilitating the processing of grief, anxiety, and other emotions associated with mortality. This experience allows individuals to detach from their daily routine, material concerns, offering a deeper understanding of existence, aiding in transitioning into non-existence. The concept of cleansing the soul, prevalent in many cultures and religions worldwide often incorporate waterbased rituals. These rituals are a manifestation of the universal human aspiration to attain peace and purity. Psychoactive drugs and physical therapy modify electrochemical processes and neural pathways, enhancing the vividness of memories, the depth of insights and processing of emotions. Hardcoding a state of acceptance and detachment we call life towards death.
